The CCN nitriding furnace is designed to perform nitriding, nitrocarburizing (including Ferritic Nitrocarburizing / FNC) and low pressure carbonitriding on a single installation, with no compromise on treatment quality. Its cold-wall, graphite-free design makes it particularly well suited to heat treatment shops and subcontractors looking for precise process control, low energy consumption, and easy day-to-day operation.
Nitriding & carbonitriding furnace
A Cold-Wall, Graphite-Free Technology
Unlike furnaces built around graphite heating elements, this nitriding furnace relies on vacuum-formed fiber insulation combined with NiCr 80/20 heating resistors.
This cold-wall design eliminates the carbon-contamination risks associated with graphite, reduces the chamber’s thermal inertia, and lowers the maintenance typically required by graphite component wear.
The result: more stable cycles, simpler upkeep, and tighter control of the treatment atmosphere, a key factor for repeatable, consistent case layers.

Technical Specifications of the CCN Nitriding Furnace
- Design: cold-wall technology, graphite-free (vacuum-formed fiber insulation, NiCr 80/20 heating elements).
- Load size: 1000 x 610 x h750 mm (39.4 x 24 x 29.5 in).
- Working temperature: 400°C to 1000°C (752°F to 1832°F), thermal uniformity ≥650°C ±6°C / ≥850°C ±3°C (≥1202°F ±11°F / ≥1562°F ±5°F).
- Working pressure: atmospheric pressure and rough vacuum.
- Compatibility with modular systems: The CCN is a cell that integrates into ECM Technologies’ existing modular lines (FLEX or JUMBO), enhancing their processing capabilities.
Advantages
- Process time savings : the absence of graphite-related thermal inertia speeds up heating and cooling ramps, shortening overall cycle time.
- Lower energy consumption : vacuum-formed fiber insulation limits heat loss and reduces power draw per cycle.
- Easier maintenance : a graphite-free design removes the upkeep typically required by this type of material and simplifies servicing.
- Modularity & scalability : the CCN furnace fits into a modular system, allowing the installation to grow (additional cells, higher capacity) without redesigning from scratch.
- Improved productivity : shorter treatment cycles thanks to a fast ramp up and cooling in hidden time
Compatible Processes
The CCN furnace covers the full range of thermochemical surface treatments commonly used in general mechanical engineering and industrial heat treatment:
- Nitriding (nitrogen diffusion in the ferritic phase to harden the part’s surface with minimal distortion)
- Nitrocarburizing, including Ferritic Nitrocarburizing (FNC) (combined nitrogen and carbon input to improve wear and fatigue resistance)
- Carbonitriding (the nitriding stage is performed directly in the CCN furnace; combined with a graphite cell, it can be followed by the carburizing stage)
- Dry oxidation (forms a protective oxide layer, used as a complement or a final process step).
The furnace also includes 150 kW convection heating, ensuring even temperature distribution across the full load.
